Replacing a Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Drive Shaft: How Much Does it Cost on Average?

Interstate 2 through Weslaco. You're hearing loud clunks during shifting, plus clicking or knocking sounds. Your ride's shuddering when speeding up, and you're having trouble turning. Stranger yet: the undercarriage is vibrating.

Few problems are scarier for to have, no matter where you're driving. They're all signs of a bad drive shaft -- more specifically, of a U- or CV joint that's worn, loose, or failing, or a bad coupler, or a faulty carrier bearing, or some combination thereof. Don't let things go any longer than they have already; you're likely to lose control while driving -- the surest way to get into a serious accident on one of the busiest roads in Texas.

What you'll need to do is run an inspection (or have a Mopar service center take a look at things), and if you have to, replace your drive shaft ASAP. Unfortunately, the job hardly ever runs cheap; you're looking at costs in the $400 to $500 range to start with, usually, and they can skyrocket fast, to $1,000 or more. They depend, in short, on the model you drive -- whether it's a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or RAM.

Drive a Dodge Ram 1500, for instance, and you might save a little money; drive shafts for one can run as little as $400. Drive a Chrysler 300, on the other hand, and you might pay a little more, like $840 plus. For a Jeep Wrangler, $1,000 or more, and for a RAM 1500, $915 plus.
